I’ve avoided doing too much cloth details since I was worried about raising the bar for myself. I know I can push way harder than I do push myself, but I felt like if I never showed that I could do it, then I could expect to do really cartoony low detail work and it would be okay. I know a fellow artist which is very capable and far more experienced than I am but has left himself in that comfortable zone, rarely pushing that boundary of his artistic ability and style. I feel like I’m in this weird partial uncanny valley. I’m far past the level of chibi and low detail like Pokemon and comfortably within the level of detail of many anime, but I want to get past it and get into the area of a manga. This is going to take a while.
